This elegant antique soap dish by H Alcock & Co is in the Avon style, a Japanese-inspired pattern featuring blossom, birds, a fan and landscape transfer ware in a sepia brown.  The pattern captures the Victorian love of nature and the exotic.

The dish has two decorated handles and further botanical images appear on the opposing sides of the base.  The insert plate is plain with a central drainage hole.  The lid has a top handle and decoration as described.

Dimensions: 13.5cm square approx. height to top of handle approx. 10.5cm.  Stoneware pottery, the patent is dated 1884.  There are a few signs of wear with minor internal chips on inside of lid and rim and one on insert, plus a couples of grazes on the insert glaze.  See images which form part of description.
