We are delighted to have sourced this fabulous set of 8 rare Wedgwood sunflower plates. They carry the signature sunflower and basket pattern often seen on the green version but are in a creamy white with the pattern appearing in silver lustre. The edge of each plate is gently scalloped which is very pretty. Please note that this is a unique opportunity to acquire a very special set!
Wedgwood first developed the "Sunflower" pattern in 1860 capitalizing on "The Aesthetic Movement" which favoured beauty over social or political themes. The plates feature relief images of leaves with a central sunflower motif. The outside rims have a basket-weave moulded design. The silver detailing makes them appear almost three dimensional.
Dimensions: 22cm diameter. They have antique ware through use therefore some of the silver is worn, but no major defects. Victorian design. Wedgwood back stamp, Made in England Printed Wedgwood Etruria England, Made in England. Painted CMG 5983 I in ochre colour script - all markings are consistent indicating that these are an original set. These are being SOLD AS A COMPLETE SET OF 8 PLATES - each plate is show in the images and one of the reverse sides is also shown for reference.
